“Amber’s Silence After the DNA Truth”

“The Test Results

The night had been calm, filled with the soft hum of jazz coming from the stereo and the smell of freshly brewed coffee. Amber sat on the couch, legs crossed, scrolling through her phone while pretending not to look at Anthony, who was pacing near the window, his phone clutched tightly in his hand.

It had been a long week — one filled with doubt, whispers, and questions no one wanted to ask out loud.

Amber: “Babe, the manager just sent the numbers from the club. It’s been a good week.”

Anthony: distracted “Yeah… yeah, that’s great.”

She smiled nervously, trying to sound normal. “You know, your wife’s really doing it out here. Bringing in the money, running the show.”

Anthony forced a small smile. “Yeah, you’ve been killing it. I told you, I trust you with it all.”

But Amber noticed his eyes — they weren’t really seeing her. He was waiting. Waiting for something.

Amber: “What are you looking at?”

Anthony: hesitating “The… uh… test results just came in.”

For a moment, the air froze. Her heart thudded in her chest. She tried to act calm, but her throat went dry.

Amber: “Okay… and so? What do they say?”

Anthony’s thumb hovered over the screen, his eyes scanning the report. The room fell silent, only the faint ticking of the wall clock breaking the tension.

Finally, he exhaled. “The baby is okay.”

Amber smiled faintly. “Good… good. And?”

He looked up, eyes meeting hers. “He’s mine.”

The smile faded from her face instantly.

Amber: “What?”

Anthony: “The DNA test says he’s mine.”

Her world stopped spinning. She blinked, trying to process the words. “No… no, that can’t be right.”

Anthony: “It’s right here, Amber. The results are positive.”

Amber stood up slowly, her hands trembling. She had imagined this moment differently — she thought she’d be the one walking away with the truth on her side, finally free of guilt. But instead, the truth cornered her.

Amber: “You don’t understand… there must be some mistake.”

Anthony: “A mistake? Amber, how many times did I ask you? You swore to me this wasn’t possible.”

Her lips quivered, eyes filling with tears. “I just… I thought…”

Anthony: “You thought what? That lying would make it disappear? That I’d never find out?”

Amber looked down, her voice barely a whisper. “I didn’t want to hurt you.”

Anthony: “Well, you did. And now we both have to live with it.”

Silence filled the room again. Amber turned away, wiping her tears. Her reflection in the mirror looked like a stranger — broken, ashamed, and lost.

Anthony: “So… what does this mean now?”

He expected her to say something — maybe apologize, maybe explain — but Amber just shook her head.

Without another word, she picked up her purse, grabbed her jacket, and walked toward the door. Her voice cracked as she whispered, “I can’t do this right now.”

The door clicked shut behind her.

Anthony stood there, staring at the phone in his hand — the notification still glowing on the screen, the truth staring back at him.

He didn’t know whether to feel relief or heartbreak. The child was his — but the woman he thought he knew was gone.

Outside, Amber walked into the night, her tears mixing with the cool air. Every step away from that house felt heavier than the last. She had wanted the DNA report to free her — but instead, it chained her to a truth she could no longer hide.
