DNA Truth That Shattered Everything
Anthony sat at the edge of the wooden bench in the small-town café, his fingers tapping nervously against the coffee cup. Across from him, Cocoa’s hands trembled as she stirred her tea. The silence between them felt heavy—like a storm waiting to break.
For months, Anthony had asked her to take the DNA test. At first, Cocoa refused, brushing it off as unnecessary. But eventually, curiosity pushed her. She ordered the kit, sent it back, and now the results were here.
And they were devastating.
Cocoa’s warm brown eyes filled with tears as she whispered, “I—I don’t even know where to start.”
“Anywhere,” Anthony urged. “You’re scaring me, Cocoa.”
Her breath shook as she pulled the paper from her bag. “Anthony… everything we thought about our family—it’s not what it seems.”
His chest tightened. “What do you mean?”
Her voice cracked. “The test… it says we’re not cousins. We’re siblings.”
Anthony’s stomach dropped. “That’s impossible. My dad—your mom—they never—” His words grew so loud that people at nearby tables turned to look.
Cocoa’s tears spilled over. “My mom lied. She told me my father was someone else. But it was your father. The DNA is a perfect match.”
Anthony snatched the printout from her hands. The numbers stared back at him: 50% DNA shared. Full siblings. No mistake.
His voice broke. “So… my dad cheated on my mom?”
Cocoa nodded. “And my mom kept it from me my whole life.”
For a long moment, neither of them spoke. Only the clinking of cups and low voices filled the café.
Finally, Anthony whispered, “We’ve been living a lie.”
Cocoa’s tear-streaked face lifted. “I don’t know what to do. I don’t even know who I am anymore.”
Anthony reached across the table and held her trembling hands. “We’ll figure this out. It’s not your fault. It’s not mine either.”
A broken laugh slipped from Cocoa. “So… we’re family. Real family.”
Anthony squeezed her hands firmly. “Yeah. We are.”
But in the back of his mind, a darker thought clawed at him. If this was true… what other secrets had their parents been hiding? Was this only the beginning of the lies?
The DNA truth had shattered everything they thought they knew. But it had also bound them together—forever, in a way neither could escape.
