💔 “She Was Just Coming Home” — A Sister’s Final Drive

Scene 1: The Silence Before the Storm

The night was unusually still.

Elena sat on the couch, absentmindedly scrolling through her phone. Her mind kept replaying her last argument with her sister, Shaunie.

She shouldn’t have yelled.

She shouldn’t have said, “Then go! Do whatever you want!”

The front door opened — it was Mike, her father. His eyes looked hollow, his voice shaking.

“Baby… sit down.”

“What’s wrong?” she asked, a nervous laugh escaping her lips. “Daddy, what happened?”

Mike’s throat tightened. He tried to speak but his voice cracked.

“There was an accident… Shaunie—”

Elena froze. Her heart stopped beating for a moment.

“Don’t. Don’t say that. Please, don’t say that.”

“She didn’t make it.”

The room shattered.

Her scream tore through the air — raw, desperate, echoing through the walls like a wound that would never close.

Scene 2: The Guilt

Hours later, Elena sat on the floor of her room, shaking. Her sister Sunny stood in the doorway, tears streaking her face.

“Elena…”

“She called me before she left,” Elena whispered. “She said she was fine. I knew she wasn’t fine, Sunny. I should’ve gone with her.”

Sunny knelt beside her. “You couldn’t have known.”

Elena’s voice broke into a whisper.

“She was drinking… and driving… because of me.”

Sunny gripped her hands tightly.

“Stop. Stop blaming yourself.”

Elena looked up, eyes empty.

“You don’t get it. I told her to go. I pushed her away. And now she’s gone. I killed her with my words.”

Sunny pulled her close, both of them crying so hard their bodies shook.

“It’s not your fault,” Sunny whispered through her tears. “It’s not your fault. Don’t let the devil trick you into thinking it is.”

Scene 3: The Goodbye

The funeral was small. A gray sky hung above as rain began to fall.

Elena stood by the coffin, her hand trembling as she placed a folded letter on top — the same note Shaunie had written her weeks ago:

> “No matter how far I go, you’ll always be my safe place.”

Elena whispered, voice barely a breath:

“I wasn’t your safe place, Shaunie… I was the reason you left.”

Mike came up behind her, putting a hand on her shoulder.

“Baby,” he said gently, “she’s home now. Let her rest.”

Elena collapsed into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably. “I just wanted to tell her I’m sorry.”

“You did,” Mike whispered. “She heard you. She always did.”

As the rain poured harder, Elena looked up to the gray sky and whispered,

“I’ll love you forever, even in the silence.”
