The Unexpected Call
Bethany was folding laundry when her phone buzzed. It was Brooke. That alone made her pause. Brooke never called unless something was wrong—or about to be.
BETHANY: “Hey… what’s up?”
BROOKE: “Bethany, I need to tell you something. And you’re not going to like it.”
The Shocking Revelation
Bethany’s chest tightened. She sat on the couch, gripping the phone.
BETHANY: “Just say it. Don’t sugarcoat it.”
BROOKE: “Sharra… co-signed with Larry.”
Bethany blinked, disbelief hitting her. The room tilted in her mind.
BETHANY: “Co-signed what?”
BROOKE: “The lease. For a full year.”
The Weight of Betrayal
Bethany leapt up, laundry slipping off her lap. Her heart pounded as the truth sank in.
BETHANY: “That’s not possible. Larry would’ve told me.”
BROOKE: “Bethany… he didn’t.”
Silence filled the room. Memories of trust and promises swirled in Bethany’s mind.
BETHANY: “Did Sharra offer… or did Larry ask?”
BROOKE: “She offered help. And he accepted.”
Confrontation Brewing
Bethany’s grip tightened around the phone. The weight of a year-long secret crushed her chest.
BETHANY: “So he trusted her enough to tie himself legally for a year… but not enough to tell me.”
She hung up, pacing the living room. The house felt smaller, oppressive.
LARRY: “Hey… you okay?” (He enters, loosening his jacket)
BETHANY: “How long were you planning to keep it from me?”
Trust Shattered
Larry froze, realization dawning. Bethany stepped closer, her voice cold.
BETHANY: “The lease. The one Sharra co-signed with you. For a year.”
LARRY: “Who told you?”
BETHANY: “So it’s true.”
Larry ran a hand through his hair, struggling for words.
LARRY: “Bethany, listen—”
BETHANY: “No. You did this. Not a stranger.”
LARRY: “It’s just paperwork. It didn’t mean anything.”
BETHANY: “It meant enough for you to sign it—and hide it.”
The Storm Within
Larry reached for her arm. She stepped back, refusing comfort. Tears fell, but her voice remained steady.
BETHANY: “A year is a long time when trust is gone.”
She walked toward the bedroom, pausing at the doorway. Brooke had cared enough to tell her the truth. Larry hadn’t.
BETHANY: “I wish I could say the same about you.”
Larry stood frozen as the door closed. Bethany’s heart hardened, quietly, dangerously. The secret he tried to control had taken control of everything.
A year-long lease. Trust shattered. And the quiet storm had only just begun. ๐ช️
