Larry Lets Bethany Go to Montana

But Lynette Puts Them Both Out — and Turns Silence into War
.
Scene 1 — The Question That Refuses to Die

BETHANY: “So you’re really going to Montana without me?”

LARRY: “Bethany… it’s not like that.”

BETHANY: “Then explain it to me like I’m not your wife.”

LARRY: “Jayden called. He said the baby’s been sick. He asked me to come alone.”

BETHANY: “Alone?”

BETHANY: (dry laugh) “You don’t do ‘alone’ trips anymore, Larry. Not since everything we survived.”

LARRY: “Please don’t turn this into something it’s not.”

BETHANY: “Every time you say that, it already is.”

Scene 2 — Pressure Behind Closed Doors

BETHANY: “Every time Montana comes up, you disappear emotionally first.”

LARRY: “That’s not fair.”

BETHANY: “What’s not fair is asking me to trust you while walking straight back into your past.”

LARRY: “It’s my grandchild.”

BETHANY: “And I’m your wife.”

BETHANY: “Say it. Say I’m coming with you.”

(long silence)

LARRY: “…Fine. You can come.”

BETHANY: (soft smile) “See? Truth didn’t kill you.”

Scene 3 — Arrival in Montana

LYNETTE: “I didn’t expect to see you here.”

BETHANY: “Funny. I didn’t expect to be unwelcome for standing next to my husband.”

LYNETTE: “This visit wasn’t meant to be… crowded.”

BETHANY: “Then you should’ve said that before opening your door.”

LARRY: “Can we just—”

LYNETTE: “No. We can’t.”

Scene 4 — Lines Drawn in the Living Room

LYNETTE: “This house has boundaries.”

BETHANY: “So do I.”

LYNETTE: “The baby doesn’t need stress.”

BETHANY: “Funny how I’m always labeled ‘stress’ when I refuse to disappear.”

LYNETTE: “I’m protecting my family.”

BETHANY: “And I’m protecting my marriage.”

Scene 5 — Silence Chooses a Side

BETHANY: “Say something, Larry.”

(looks away)

BETHANY: “Say anything.”

LARRY: “Let’s just go.”

BETHANY: (bitter laugh) “Wow.”

BETHANY: “You didn’t choose peace.”

BETHANY: “You chose her.”

LARRY: “I chose to avoid a scene.”

BETHANY: “No, Larry. You chose a war you think I won’t fight.”

The door shuts behind them — but betrayal has already moved in.
