THE HEAVY EVENING
The living room was quiet except for the ticking wall clock. Fading sunlight slipped through the curtains, painting long shadows across the floor. Larry stood near the door, holding a brown envelope tightly against his chest.
LARRY: Bethany… we need to talk.
THE ENVELOPE ON THE TABLE
Larry walked forward and placed the envelope on the center table. The soft sound echoed louder than expected.
BETHANY: What is that?
SHOCK AND SILENCE
Bethany stared at him, her eyes wide with disbelief. Memories rushed through her mind like fading photographs.
THE PEN AND THE PROMISES
Crisp white papers slid out, followed by a simple blue pen resting beside them.
THE FINAL QUESTION
BETHANY: Do you even care anymore?
THE SIGNATURE
She finally picked up the pen and signed her name slowly.
As Larry picked up the signed papers and moved toward the door, he paused for a brief moment… but the silence answered first.
