The room felt heavy. The air barely moved. Larry sat at the edge of the couch, elbows on his knees, jaw tight. His eyes were focused on the floor — but his mind was racing.

Bethany: “Larry… I think you might be a little too strict with Brooke.”
His head lifted slowly. The silence that followed was louder than her words.
Larry: “Too strict?”
His voice was low. Controlled. But there was fire underneath.

Bethany: “She’s trying. She’s learning. Maybe she needs space… not constant correction.”
Larry stood up instantly. Not yelling. Not screaming. Just intense.
Larry: “You think I’m doing this to be mean? You think I don’t know what’s best?”
Bethany stepped back slightly.
Bethany: “That’s not what I’m saying. I just worry she’s overwhelmed.”
Larry inhaled deeply. His protective instincts were screaming inside.
Larry: “If you think I’m too strict… maybe you should experience strict.”
Bethany: “Excuse me?”

Larry straightened his posture like a drill sergeant.
Larry: “Welcome to Boot Camp. Starting now.”
Bethany blinked in disbelief.
Bethany: “Larry, you cannot be serious.”
Larry: “Push-ups. Fifty. Perfect form.”
She stared at him… then laughed.
Bethany: “This is ridiculous.”
Larry: “Forty-nine more to go.”
She dropped to the floor.
Ten push-ups in… she was breathing harder.
Twenty in… she was glaring at him.
Thirty in… she realized something.

Larry paced slowly around her.
Larry: “Discipline isn’t punishment. It’s preparation. I push Brooke because the world won’t go easy on her.”
Bethany paused mid-count.
That hit differently.
Larry: “I’d rather she struggle in training than fail in reality.”
By the time she finished, she was exhausted — but thoughtful.

He extended his hand and helped her up.
