For months, Destiny had been counting down the days to the biggest moment of her teenage life — her Sweet 16 birthday celebration. To her, turning sixteen wasn’t just another birthday. It meant freedom, celebration, friends, music, and unforgettable memories.
She had imagined everything perfectly. The bright Miami sunshine. The sound of waves crashing along the beach. Her friends laughing together as the music played under glowing lights on the sand.
Every single detail of the trip had been living inside her mind for weeks.
Destiny: “Dad! Guess what! Only three more weeks until my Sweet 16!”
Larry looked up from the table, smiling at the excitement in his daughter’s voice.
Larry: “I know, baby girl. That’s why I’ve been working on something special.”
Destiny: “Something special?”
Larry paused dramatically before revealing the surprise.

Unfortunately, Destiny and Larry were not the only people in the house listening.
From the living room couch, Bethany suddenly sat up when she heard the word “Miami.”

She walked into the kitchen with dramatic excitement already building in her voice.

Bethany: “Larry we are going to have SO much fun!”
Larry immediately sensed trouble.
Larry: “Hold on… Bethany…”
Bethany: “No no no! I already know what swimsuits I’m packing.”
Bethany: “Beach clubs, music, parties… this trip is going to be ICONIC.”
Destiny suddenly became quiet.
Her excitement faded slightly as she looked toward Bethany.

Destiny: “Bethany… actually… I wanted to talk to you about that.”
Bethany blinked in confusion.

Destiny took a deep breath.

Destiny looked at her father for support.
Larry gave her a small nod.
So Destiny finally said it.
Destiny: “I don’t want you to come.”
Silence filled the room instantly.
Bethany stared at her.

Destiny: “This is my Sweet 16. I want it to be just me and my friends.”
Bethany’s expression slowly shifted from excitement… to disbelief.
Bethany: “You’re serious?”
Destiny nodded quietly.
Larry Steps In
Larry could see the tension rising quickly.
So he stepped between them before things exploded.
Larry: “Bethany… Destiny isn’t trying to hurt your feelings.”
Larry: “This is her birthday. She should celebrate it the way she wants.”
Bethany crossed her arms.
Bethany: “So I’m just not invited?”
Destiny: “It’s not like that… I just want it to be a teen party.”
Larry: “And I’ll still be there supervising.”
Bethany rolled her eyes dramatically.
Bethany: “Wow… okay then.”
But then her attitude suddenly shifted again.
A mischievous smile appeared on her face.
Bethany: “Fine.”
Bethany: “But I’m still packing my cutest swimsuits.” π
Destiny groaned.

Later that evening, Destiny and Larry sat together at the dining table reviewing the full travel plan.
Hotel reservations were already confirmed.
A private beach section had been booked for the birthday party.

Larry: “You deserve it.”
Destiny smiled brightly.

Meanwhile, Bethany sat on the couch pretending to scroll through her phone.

She sighed dramatically.

Then she smirked slightly.

Larry laughed from the kitchen.
